DAN IS A CONTENDER. SO SAYS MY SQUEE.
I was squeeing so hard I almost passed out.
I love how they actually drew Dan as a contender in this episode. I was worried (still am) that this season would be Chuck/Blair/Prince with Dan awkwardly pining for an episode and a half before making out with Serena or Charlie or both. But damn if his feelings aren’t real. And Blair’s “Take me there”…straight to my heart. She might not love him, not yet, but she can rely on him—which is more than she could ever say about Chuck.
(Yes, Dan got his moment of selfish asshattery…but it’s not like his lie of omission neared Chuck’s 1. pretending to be her boyfriend [Lord Marcus] 2. sleeping with one of her nemeses [Jenny] or 3. trading her for a hotel. And he stood up for the right thing in the end, without trying to twist it in his own favor.)
I also love that they’re drawing the parallels to Chair—after getting his invite, Dan asking “Was Chuck Bass invited?”, the return of three words, eight letters—as a way of equalling Dan’s love for Blair to Chuck’s love for her.
HE’S A CONTENDER, people. And I cannot wait to find out how that book ends. :D
